  • Preheat the oven to 350℉. Spray an 8x4-inch loaf pan with nonstick spray.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the butter, sugar and egg. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; add to the sugar mixture alternately with the buttermilk. In a small bowl, combine the swirl ingredients.
  • Pour ⅓ of the batter into the prepared pan; sprinkle with ⅓ of the swirl mixture. Repeat the layers twice. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix the batter—mix just until combined for a tender loaf.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, use 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice.
  • Add chopped nuts or a simple glaze if desired.
  • Store tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze up to 2 months.
