Best Alfredo Sauce Recipe in a jar

Pasta is pretty darn boring by itself.  As Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce says, “The sauce is the boss!”  I have been eating pasta with store-bought alfredo sauce since I was a toddler. I recently realized how much junk is in it, so I decided to make my own!

Alfredo sauce is my favorite thing to put on pasta. I would choose it over any other sauce. I’ve tried many different kinds of alfredo sauce, and this is my absolute favorite.

It’s nice to be able to know every ingredient you are eating. The preservatives and chemicals that big companies put in the store-bought alfredo sauce are disgusting.

You have never tasted anything quite like this alfredo sauce. If you don’t like alfredo, this will make you change your mind about it. If you like alfredo, you will never go back to store-bought alfredo ever again after trying my Best Alfredo Sauce Recipe.

  • Melt the butter over medium heat in a medium saucepan.  Add the garlic and saute for about 1 minute.  Whisk in the flour and stir for 1 minute.
  • Slowly whisk in the half and half.  Turn heat to medium-high and whisk occasionally until the mixture comes to a slow boil.  Reduce heat to simmer and stir in the cheese; stir until melted.  Add salt only if you have used unsalted butter.  Add about 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley, if desired.
  • Use Alfredo sauce immediately for your recipe, or refrigerate (covered) until ready to serve.  Sauce will stay nicely in the refrigerator for about 1 week.

  1. This was the best! Not by any means trying to change the recipe before I tried it, but being 30 miles from a grocery store…….. I only had 1 cup of heavy cream left so i used it and 1 cup of milk and like 2 ounces of cream cheese. I was worried it wouldn’t thicken up, but was the BOMB. Great job Brooks!!!

    1. I had a similar situation here, only there’s a snowstorm raging outside today and I only had 2% milk.  I added a couple tablespoons of sour cream and that made it just as rich as if I had used cream.  Wonderful sauce!

  2. I’m getting ready to fix it for the 1st I’ve, I hope it taste as good as it looks!! I’m going to put chicken on top of the pasta and sauce. Wish me luck

  3. I had half and half and shredded Parmesan for a different recipe that I ended up not making. Looked for a recipe for Alfredo just to make something quick for dinner with lemon pepper chicken, pasta, and steamed broccoli. I am SO glad I tried this! Absolutely delicious! I did add some black pepper at the end, other than that I stuck to the recipe. I will make this again and again. Thank you!

This is my go-to alfredo sauce recipe! So yummy and easy. I especially like that it calls for half and half rather than heavy cream. Thank you for this recipe!

Was looking for a recipe that didn’t use heavy whipping cream and found this. It was so easy to make. Went great with my grilled chicken breast.
    Thank you.

Made this for the first time. It was quick and easy. I modified a little based on what I had on hand. 12 oz half and half and 2 oz cream cheese and added a pinch of red pepper flakes. Threw in some shrimp and clams. My husband LOVED it. Thank you!
