For my friend’s birthday (the same friend that made the Polka Dot Cookies with me), I decided to make a cake that my mom has made before on her blog. Since my friend’s favorite candy is Kit Kats, I made a Kit Kat Cake. I supposed that if he liked Kit Kats, he MUST like M&Ms.
Whoa. I would be horrified to know how many calories are in this cake. The M&Ms and Kit Kats alone would be a TON of calories, but with cake and frosting too? Crazy.
The process of decorating the Kit Kat Cake is pretty time consuming. You have to surround the cake with M&Ms at the bottom of the cake. After that last step, you need to gently press the Kit Kats into the cake just above the M&Ms.
The Kit Kats need to be a very small space apart or else the M&Ms on top will slip through the open space.
My famous saying in this photo is: “To dump M&Ms, or not to dump M&Ms.” In this case, dump the M&Ms. But even though you dump the M&Ms on top, you still need to make sure that the M&Ms aren’t all piled up on one side. Try to even it out.
When you’re done with the cake, take two awesome colors of ribbon and wrap it around the Kit Kats. It’s a very clever idea. I only had three colors of ribbon, so I chose red and blue over yellow. Only now do I realize my cake looks like a presidential election cake.
I was proud of my masterpiece and still am. All Kit Kat Cakes look as majestic as mine (but mine is a little grander than most people’s cakes… because I made it!). 🙂
I might be able to take down the cake in one bite!! I don’t really think so though.
My friend, his family, and I LOVED this cake. I realized a measurement unit for cake slices too! You can use the Kit Kats to measure! For example: A three Kit Kat slice. The piece would be cut so that three Kit Kats are on the end your slice. In my opinion, the cake tasted perfect but chocolate is my life so other people might have different tastes than me (no pun intended). Any chocolate lover like me will want to marry this cake like the man who marries bacon in the Jack in the Box commercial. As the commercial says: “You may now eat the bride.”
And even a kid can create puns without realizing it… Like Me!
Not only are you talented in the kitchen, but you are a funny kid as well! Love it!!
This is so fabulous thanks for sharing. I love all t he fun pics too.
This looks like a candy lover’s dream! Great job! I love that you used dark M&Ms and I love the idea of slicing the cake based on number of Kit Kats. (Could be a Red Sox cake with those blue and red ribbons!)
I love the puns! Keep ’em coming. And your shirt is pretty awesome, too.
This looks so good! I love chocolate too and Kit-Kats and M&M’s!!! I can’t wait to try this cake. I think I know just the person who loves chocolate just as much as I do that would love having this cake for their birthday! Thanks for the great recipe!
Heck yeah!! This will definitely be my b-day cake!!
Looks so yummy. Yea like one kitkat slice of cake with those calories because you know you have to eat icecream too. 🙂 you did a great job. Yes your great with puns too. 🙂 oh and hate the shirt. GO CARDINALS!!!!
Go Red Sox!! Too bad your Cardinals don’t have Albert anymore!!
That is one amazing cake. I bet your friend was thrilled 🙂
You did such a great job with this cake, and I’m sure Ben was delightfully surpassed! What a nice friend you are!
Imagine all of the possibilities with this cake… maybe sugar babies or malt balls on top! Themed M&M’s for different holidays! We’ll have to try some variations, I think.
I just made this one for a friend, too! I used the Valentine colored M&M’s. Everyone loved it, just like your friend did!
Good job and a nice surprise for Ben. Love all the color! The ribbons made it a perfect cake. What a nice way to show your appreciation to a good friend….another good memory to share.
What a wonderful looking cake! I’m sure it tasted yummy. I also love your shirt. We are big Boston Red Sox fans here. My son-in-law is from Connecticut and likes to go to the games up that way and here in Houston. A guy from my hometown in SC played for the Red Sox many years ago. Keep on cooking! You’re doing a great job!
That’s awesome. Do you by chance know who the Red Sox player from SC is or was? That is VERY interesting information.
What a fantastic job on this cake! It was a very special birthday treat for Ben! Thank you for making it! You’re a very special friend!
The Red Sox player is Tom Brewer or Thomas Austin Brewer. He lives in SC and helped coach a cousin last year with his pitching. My 6 yr. old grandson, Evan, plays t-ball and loves the game. Keep cooking and keep looking for Evan to be a big baseball player!
I would like to know why did you add extra ingredients to the cake batter?
I want to make this cake this week still, but would like to know why they were added if the batter only needs eggs, water and oil usually
thank you
It’s my mom’s recipe, and the extra ingredients make a boxed cake taste a million times better.
Thank you for the info! I’m sure I will give it a try!
I made one of these for my son’s birthday. Delicious beyond all reason, but I decided to sit down and figure out exactly how many calories it contained.
10,757 for the whole cake using:
3 cups Bulk Barn Deluxe Chocolate Cake Mix (requires 120mL Vegetable Oil and 150mL whole egg)
720g Bulk Barn Chocolate Icing
480g M&Ms
39 Kit Kat fingers.
That’s 828 calories for a 3 Kit Kat-wide slice. Crazy.
My brother would LOVE these! This will make a great b-day present for him! Thank you! I’m much grateful!
people make those in stores for money, and it looked exactly like that one. cause my mom got me one from Jewel Osco or Woodmans for my birthday, and it looked JUST like that. Even the ribbons!
